The Awdal region of Somalia is inhabited by more than one million people. The entire region has no medical facility with modern medical equipment and supplies. As a result people, especially women and children, continue to die of very basic, preventable and/or treatable diseases such as TB, viral and bacterial infections, and malaria. AL-Hayatt Hospital is a project designed to fill this void and save lives.

Objective

Amoud Foundation plans to build Al-Hayatt Hospital in the city of Borama, capital of this vast region in war-torn Somalia. The project is scheduled for completion by January 2007. This medical facility will save thousands of lives who would otherwise have succumbed to very basic, treatable diseases.
 

We are counting on our supporters around the world to help us make this project a reality and save lives. This poor community that lost everything in the Somali Civil War is counting on us. As a Somali proverb says, “Nin lagu seexdow ha seexan”—translation: “Those of you whose vigil allows others to sleep well should not fall asleep yourselves.
